Here are 7 key benefits of Singapore Citizen:

Enhanced
Career Opportunities

Singaporeans have advantages to many job opportunities including the roles inside government agencies.

Education Benefits

In Singapore, kiddos get a cool benefit called the Edusave Scheme. It’s a way for the government to recognise and reward kids who excel in either their schoolwork or non-academic pursuits. Plus, it can also help cover the 2nd-Tier Miscellaneous Fee. And if you’re a Singapore citizen, you get some sweet perks when it comes to education. You’ll pay the lowest fees for public schools, and you can snag some pretty awesome subsidies for private and tertiary education too!

Healthcare Benefits

If you’re a Singaporean citizen, you’re in luck when it comes to medical bills. You’ll get a bigger subsidy than PRs or foreigners for treatment at Public Hospitals, Polyclinics and National Centres.

And for those who really need it, there are even more subsidies available to help cover medical expenses. Just keep in mind that these extra subsidies are only for needy Singaporeans.

Retirement Benefits

The Central Provident Fund (CPF) scheme is a mandatory monthly contribution towards an employee’s pension fund, applicable to both Singaporean citizens and PRs. Both the employee and their employer are required to contribute a minimum amount.

The CPF scheme offers significant financial benefits, including support for home-ownership, health care, children’s education, family protection, and asset growth through investments and higher interest rates. Additionally, CPF contributions can be claimed as tax relief, reducing an individual’s taxable income.

After two years of permanent residency, PRs are entitled to the same CPF contribution rate as Singaporean citizens. This is an essential aspect of Singapore’s commitment to provide for the welfare and financial security of its citizens and residents.

Travel Benefits

Singapore passport holders have easy access to travel around the world because of Singapore’s good relationships with other countries. This means that they can go to different countries without needing to get visas or permission from the embassies, which can take a long time to process.

Property Ownership

i) Public Housings

Singapore citizens have the privilege to own and rent apartments from the HDB once they are over the age of 21. They can also buy the government’s subsidised Built-To-Order flats for their first property. Singapore PRs have to wait for at least 2 years before buying a resale HDB flat. For more information, you can visit the HDB website.

(ii) Taxes For Residential Properties

Singapore citizens find it easier to borrow loans for buying properties compared to foreigners. Singapore PRs and foreigners need to pay an Additional Buyer’s Stamp Duty for even their first property, but Singapore citizens don’t have to. Even for subsequent properties, the stamp duty payable for a citizen is lower than for a PR or foreigner.

Family Benefits

The Singapore Government wants to help its citizens become parents and address concerns about low birth rates. They’ve put in place various measures to help, including:

  • Using Medisave to pay for childbirth expenses, including pre-delivery costs, for all their children.
  • Giving cash bonuses of up to S$8,000 for the first two children and up to S$10,000 for the third and fourth child in a Singaporean family.
  • Providing tax rebates of S$10,000 – S$20,000 based on the child’s birth order, and a tax relief of 5% – 25% of a working mother’s earned income based on the number of children in the family.
  • Giving up to S$400 per month in infant-care subsidy for parents of Singapore Citizen infants aged 2-18 months who attend licensed infant or child care centres.
  • Offering a concession on the foreign domestic worker levy to Singaporean families with children aged 12 years and below, who will only pay a levy of S$250.
